Elegant Indoor Vs Outdoor Herb Gardens

Indoor Vs Outdoor Herb Gardens

Are you planning on planting a herb garden? What a wonderful way to bring fresh herbs into your home and kitchen, and what better way to occupy your free time? There are many pros and cons to having either an indoor or an outdoor setting for your herb garden, but the choice is ultimately yours, and whatever will work best with your situation is the best way to go. Here are some things to consider when you are deciding where and how to put in a herb garden.

The great thing about it all is that herbs don’t necessarily need soil, and can be grown all year long, no matter what the weather is-as long as you do it right. It is important to begin with seedlings when growing an herb garden, and, should you do it in the spring, it will be important to begin the growing process inside. You will need to find a sunny location, or begin in a greenhouse, if you can.

Some herbs are so small and take up so little room that you can actually put them all in one container, and save a lot of space. If you are planning on having your herb garden inside, this can be a great advantage, as your amount of space may be somewhat limited.

There are many herbs that simply will need to be replanted every year, so this gives you that indoor-outdoor option over and over again annually. If you have been blessed with good soil, and a good climate for the herbs that you are trying to grow, an outside herb garden can be an attractive addition to your home. However, if the soil is sandy or not very healthy, you’ll need to provide a some space that contains the right kind of soil and conditions that will be conducive for the growth of the plant.

Garden boxes can be purchased that will raise up the herbs from the level of the ground, and also give you a good place to plant the herbs in healthy soil. This is something that can be placed outside in your garden, or perhaps even in your windowsill. As each herb requires different things, it might be best to determine what kinds of herbs you are planning to grow, and then decide where to grow them, so that the atmosphere provides the best place for them to flourish.

As you learn more and practice, you will soon find having an herb garden – indoor or outdoor – is a fulfilling and useful hobby to have.

Luxury the Abc?s of Fish Ponds

The ABC?s of Fish Ponds

When planning to make a fish pond, it would be better if you understand how to take care of one before executing your plans.

If you live in an area where it is freezing cold or where the temperature is usually low, it is good to make a fish pond that is thirty to fifty inches deep. This way, the fish can stay at the bottom of the water weather conditions are not favorable. But the most effective way to keep the fish pond environment warm is to place an electrical device called de-icer that functions as a heater. This is one device that is very useful especially during winter. It keeps the water from the surface of the pond from getting frozen. Another way of keeping the fish pond warm during winter is to provide plastic cover with small holes in it to allow air to enter.

It is a must to get a pond filter to make sure the water is clean enough for fish to survive. There are many pond filters available in the market and you can actually opt to use a solar powered pond filter if you want to cut back on your electricity bill and if you want to save the environment from further harm produced by the burning of fossil. Always keep in mind to regularly check your pond filter. Along with checking it, you should also clean or change the filter as often as needed. It all depends on how big your pond, how many fish there are and the season.

If your pond is situated in a garden or in a place where there are plants and trees, you will be needing a net to keep the leaves, flowers, debris and twigs from falling into the pond.

You also need to know how and what to feed your fish. Remember that their appetite is different from us. Avoid feeding biscuits, rice and bread to your fish. Buy from your local pet shop.

Water pollution is one perpetrator that can cause health complications to fish. Thus, make sure that what you place inside the pond will not cause any pollution. If you have other pets at home like cats and dogs, make sure that they do not throw stuff in the water or urinate in it.
Solar pond fountains can help you save energy cost. For an enchanting look of your fish pond you can add lake fountains.

Lovely Buying a Prefab Chicken Coop

Buying a Prefab Chicken Coop

For newcomers to the world of chicken breeding, the prefab chicken coop is quickly becoming one of the most popular choices. A prefab coop provides a complete solution that is easy to assemble and is often extremely cost-effective. The best way to save money of course, is to do it yourself. However, if you are not very handy or need a simple and fast solution, a prefab coop is probably a great choice for you.

The prospective breeder must know what size of coop they are looking for, which is dependent on the number of birds to be bred and what they will be used for. A prefab chicken house can be something as simple as a nylon and plastic assembly for two or three chickens, all the way up to a huge double-decker coop used in more commercial applications.

Pricing will also vary, but generally speaking, a prefab coop will tend to be more expensive than if you built one yourself. On the other hand, a quality coop will be well-engineered and can be assembled easily, so you are really paying for the convenience. A small prefab coop for two or three chickens will usually run about $ 300 US dollars, and the price goes up from there, with a large coops for dozens of chickens costing thousands of dollars.

The most important thing about a prefab chicken den is to ensure that you are getting your money's worth from the purchase. This means that the coop should be of ample size to accommodate all of your birds. It should be of high-quality construction, and it should be easy to assemble. It should be built well enough to protect the chickens from predators like foxes and dogs. And any good prefab chicken coop will come with a money-back guarantee and a generous warranty.

Whether you are looking for a permanent or portable coop, there are options available. Coops 4 You provides a very cost-effective line of portable prefab coop designs that are also somewhat less expensive than other permanent coops. Remember that portable coops, though cheaper, tend not to be as sturdy as permanent coops.

An example of a popular prefab chicken house is the Eglu (a play on Eggs and Igloo). This $ 400 US dollar enclosure comes with the Eglu itself (a plastic roost area), 10 egg boxes, an enclosed fox proof run and run shade, a chicken guide, and a 30 day money-back guarantee. The unit can house up to four chickens. Other prefab chicken coop solutions are similarly priced, and offer a way for the enthusiast to get into the chicken-breeding market with a minimum of fuss, provided the buyer knows exactly what they need for their purposes.

Awesome 10 Critical Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Build a Koi Fish Pond

10 Critical Questions to Ask Yourself Before You Build a Koi Fish Pond

Before approaching the task of constructing a Koi Pond, ask yourself the following questions:

Are you prepared to build the Koi Pond yourself or get an expert to build it for you?

There is no substitute for getting quality advice from a professional pond builder. After you have done your preliminary research and have started to gain some idea of what you want, you can really benefit from consulting with a professional. They can discuss your ideas with you and help spell out what is doable and what is not; what is realistic and what is not; and finally, what is affordable and what is not! Following such a discussion, you will be in a far better position to decide whether you want to build yourself or hire a professional builder do the work for you.

Just how much can you afford to spend?

This is the easiest but most critical question of all. Take a guess at what it “might” cost to build the Koi Pond you have in mind and then double it! Is this amount out of your reach? Well, guess what! This is exactly the “scary” question you ought to ask yourself! Now, get yourself an expenses book and list out all predicted itemized expenses as you do your research. You will need to determine a budget for absolutely EVERYTHING before you even think about grabbing that spade! As you finalize your preliminary budget, ask yourself once more if this is affordable or way beyond your means. If it is within range of what you expected, then you can look for ways to reduce spending if needed, along the way. For example, when it comes to stocking your completed pond, you may want to cut back by purchasing smaller or less mature Koi specimens as these are often less expensive. Likewise, you may be able to cut back on pond plant expenditure or ornamentation if necessary.

How much room do you have for a Koi Pond?

Now this is almost as important as the “Money” question! You really need to consider not only the size of the pond that you “want” but what your backyard can “accommodate”. Think in terms of what percentage of the yard would be needed for your ultimate pond - this can help put things in perspective. If your yard is big, then this normally won’t be an issue, but, you do still need to think about the “location” within your yard. When considering how much space, think along the lines of “bigger is better” - meaning Koi can grow quite big and realistically require a lot of room to grow. You may also be tempted to buy “one of every color” when it comes to stocking your pond, so there is a risk of over-crowding! Set yourself a limit on the quantity of Koi you will have long-term (either by purchasing more Koi later on or from breeding) and ensure that your pond size will be sufficient to accommodate them.

How many Koi fish do you want to have? It’s fairly well known that fish will only grow to a size that their environment can sustain. They will also grow faster where there is a smaller population of fish as a result of less competition for food and better water quality resulting from less waste.  It is less well known however, that the growth of Koi can be promoted better by an increase in water surface area. In other words, if you think about 2  ponds of equivalent volume, let’s say 10,000 gallons (just about 38,000 litres) but different depths, the deeper pond will not promote growth as well as the other as a consequence of a smaller water surface area. Consider also, that a pond can support a corresponding total weight or “biomass” of fish. For example, in a small pond, the biomass may support either 2 large fish or 20 smaller fish provided that the total weight is the same in either situation, and provided that it does not exceed the final biomass for that pond. A general guideline  when determining how many fish your pond will take is, about 50 to 100 gallons per small koi (under 12”), and 500 to 1000 gallons per large koi (over 24”) in a properly filtered pond. Some experts say that those new to the Koi hobby are advised to build a pond between 1,000 and 5,000 gallons, however, others advise that the ideal pond is more around the 10,000 gallon mark. Ultimately, your pond size will be influenced by cost, location and space, but aim for the biggest you can manage - it’s very difficult to go back and make your pond larger afterward!

How much time are you happy to spend maintaining your Koi Pond?

This question needs to be answered with the same level of honesty and practicality that the question of “Money” was! Think about how much time you “think” you may have to spend upkeeping your Koi Pond and then double it! Is this more time than you’re happy to put in or not? This is another area that should be discussed with your professional koi pond consultant.

Do you have the right location for a Koi Pond?

Just like Real Estate, it’s all about Location! Location! Location! Your Koi Pond needs to be where it can be admired and enjoyed BUT it also wants to be located with the following considerations in mind. To begin with, your pond needs indirect sunlight where possible so that the water temperature doesn’t undergo huge daily variations. Also try not to place it under a tree where it will collect a lot of leaves and other debris - you don’t want to spend any more time than necessary scooping out leaves. Finally, don’t forget to consider building restrictions from your local council or authority and check for underground pipes and cables before you commence.

Are you prepared to learn about Koi and their needs?

Take the time to do your homework. This will minimize the mistakes that are easily made from guesswork, and could save you a great deal of time, money and effort. There are lots of resources available for you to take advantage of. Try talking to Koi enthusiasts or visit Koi fish club meetings.

Can you dig deep enough for a Koi Pond?

Depth is critical to the success of your Koi Pond. Too deep and it becomes impractical to clean, to catch Koi if necessary, and let’s face it, it becomes too costly to build. Too shallow and your Koi might not have enough shelter from would be predators like cats and birds or shelter from the heat of a summer’s day. If you are excited about the prospect of hand feeding your new pets, then think about having a shallow area that you can stand in while feeding them. You will still need to have the remainder of the pond at a minimum depth of at least 3 or 4 feet, but ideally, if you can manage it, 5 or 6 feet is better. If creating a multi-level pond, be careful not to create static areas where the water does not circulate sufficiently, as this provides places for serious diseases to breed and for debris to collect. This can cause major problems with water quality.

What “Extras” do you want with your Koi Pond?

Would you like “Fries” with that? I mean, would you like Fry in your pond? If you’re thinking about breeding Koi somewhere in the future, you will have to ask about this at the same time you are consulting with the professional pond builder. There are various “extras” that may need to be factored in for the purposes of spawning. Likewise, if you are looking at the aesthetics of the pond itself, you may want to investigate the cost of adding a “Waterfall” which can greatly aid in the oxygenation of the water and consequently affect the size of any filtration unit required. Pond plants can also add to the expense - be sure you do your research here as you can’t put in any plants you like - that’s an entire other subject. There are many other materials that need to be factored into the cost of your pond that come under the heading of “necessities” rather than “extras”. These may include but are not limited to such things as a biological filter, pipes, settlement chambers, a de-chlorinator, bird netting, drains, pumps, skimmers, heating, plus more. Again, these should all be discussed with your consultant at the planning stage.

Are you really, really enthusiastic about having your own Koi Pond?

The answer to this one, even after all of the above, should be a resounding “YES”, otherwise, go and buy yourself a goldfish bowl - it will be a lot less expensive with a lot less work, but ultimately, will be a lot less rewarding (no disrespect to goldfish intended!). If the answer is in fact “YES” then great! You have many years ahead to look forward to as your pets grow in size, personality and beauty!

Unique Great Ideas for Patio Umbrellas

Great Ideas For Patio Umbrellas

We have all these great spaces for our new patio umbrellas but where do we put them? What works and what doesn't? What do we need to consider when we place them? This article will answer these questions and a few suggestions on how to figure your outdoor space. There can be a real element of design when creating your space and, given the size and visual impact of these umbrellas we need to be careful how they are integrated in these spaces.

The best place to start is to draw picture of the area you are working in. Put in buildings, plants, bushes, tables, etc. Don't be afraid of too much detail. Use colors and textures to help your mind get a good grasp on the area. Next cut out some circles from colored paper the scaled size of umbrellas this will allow us to move them around on the drawing. This isn't a bad idea to do with tables and chairs. There are a lot of choices at this point. Color and size are the obvious things to consider. Do you want the patio umbrellas to stand out or do you want them to blend with the natural surroundings. If you have a beautiful flower bed with vibrant colors you don't want your eye drawn to a pink umbrella. If you have an outside bar area that is drab, find a color or logo umbrella that you can hang decorative light from.

Some of our plants can't handle too much sun in certain times of the year and we can group a few of these below the umbrella to allow them to flourish. I don't think we see this visual effect enough and can limit us on our choices of flowers we are able to grow and display. Similarly protection from the rain and other elements can be achieved using the same technique. Try to keep symmetry in mind and how your eye is drawn to the proper details of your area. Walls, trees, shrubs can all have an impact how it will work.

Sometimes we have a confined space to work with and some other aspects need to be taken into consideration. Along with the diameter of the umbrella, color can make it appear larger or smaller. The height if the post is also a factor. Higher up may block an ugly telephone pole while a lower post may create a more intimate setting. Either way, study your area and make your choice before you buy. You may want to leave the tag on it in case you want to return.

Unique 6 Plants to Grow in Your Koi or Fish Pond

6 Plants to Grow in Your Koi Or Fish Pond

Most pond keepers, including myself, would like to keep some plants in their Koi ponds so as to have a pond that looks natural and able to blend with the overall garden. However, Koi and water plants generally do not go well together as Koi eats plants or will likely disturb the soil in which the plants are growing.  Here are 6 plants that I have successfully kept with my Koi. Note that some of these plants originate from South East Asia and requires warm climate to thrive.

The Elephant Ears or Taro (Alocasia Macrorrhiza)

The Elephant Ears or Taro is a plant commonly found in South East Asia. This is a relative large plant with large leaves that grows well in a large pot placed in the shallow parts of a Koi pond, with the pot half or almost fully submerged.  It propagates through small suckers that grow at the side of the large plant. A mature plant can grow to a height of 5 feet or more and have leaves that are more than a few feet in length. It will make a nice specimen or feature plant in the garden or in your Koi pond.

The Elephant Ears can be surrounded with the Creeping Daisy (Wedelia Trilobata) to hid the large pot and soften the overall look. The Creeping Daisy has small yellow flowers and is easily grown by stem cuttings. Just cut and stick them into the wet soil in the pot. They root easily and further cuttings can then be made and inserted into the pot again. In no time, you have a nice covering of Creeping Daisy with yellow flowers around the large leaves of the Elephant Ears. You could substitute the Creeping Daisy with other suitable creeping plants that thrive in moist soil.

Pandan (pandanus amaryllifolius)

The fragrant pandan plant is commonly found in South East Asia and is a good plant to grow in your Koi pond. It can be grown in soil or in water (hydroponics), hence making it suitable for a Koi pond. The pandan plant grows easily, absorbing the nitrates from the water. The leaves can be harvested every few months. The leaves give off a nice fragrance and are used widely as a flavouring in South East Asian cooking and baking. Believe it or not, its leaves could also be used as a cockroach repellent! No artificial chemical, all natural.

The Dwarf Papyrus (Cyperus Haspen)

The dwarf papyrus plant is not one of my favourites although I have this growing out of a pot that is half submerged in my Koi pond. The reasons are that the matured stems or leaves will droop down into the water as young plants grow out from the cluster of small flower head at the top of stem. Therefore it requires regular trimming to remove the old stems or leaves to keep the plant looking tidy and neat. I think it will look good if grown densely at the sides of a pond, rather than in an isolated pot in my pond.

Umbrella Plant (Cyperus Alternifolius)

The Umbrella Plant is a rush-like aquatic plant with foliage arranged on stems like the ribs of an umbrella. It originates from Madagascar and is very easy to grow in hot, sunny climate. Unlike the small dwarf papyrus, this plant can grow up to 5 feet in height. As this is a large plant, grow them in a large pot that can be submerged or half submerged in the pond.

Water Lilies (Nymphaea)

No garden pond is complete without the water lilies but they are not the best plants for pond with large Koi! The leaves floats on the water surface and the large Koi will chew on them unless they are protected somewhat. Hence, lilies are only suitable for ponds with small Koi. The lilies are best grown in pots placed in the shallow part of a Koi pond. Protect the top of the pots with large stones to prevent the Koi from digging on the soil and messing up the water. My water lilies flower daily under strong sunlight and regular dosage of fertilisers tablets which I stick into the soil. The other problem with water lilies is that the flowers and older leaves will wilt after a few days. If not removed, they will pollute the pond water. Although the Koi will eat them, some debris will inevitably find their way into the pond filter.

Lotus(Nelumbo)

The lotus plant can be grown in pots placed in the shallow part of a Koi pond. Protect the top of the pots with large stones to prevent the large Koi from digging on the soil and messing up the water. The plant has two types of leaves. The leaves of a young lotus plant float on the water surface but the leaves from the older plants grow well above the water surface. The plant produces pink flowers on a long stock above the water. Like water lilies, lotus requires regular feeding with fertilisers to keep it flowering.

You remember when I was talking about the hexagon bumper table? Well it is a 3 in one table. This bumper pool table converts from a dining table to an 8 position poker table with a flip of the top. All you will do is remove the top exposes. This pool table will run around six hundred dollars or so. Bumper tables are great to have and all you need is one that will fit in your home. The three in one table can fit in any small corner of your choice without the hassle of trying to cram it in like you would do a rectangle type bumper pool table. The hexagon is also a ding room table to start with so it makes it even easier to place. The three in one is also good for those of you that really like poker.

If you don't want the hassle of paying too much then just buy a regular bumper pool of your choice. These tables are rectangular and some are actually round too, but they look very good for some of the prices that are presented. There is nothing wrong with this table to set it straight it might be even bigger than the three in one by it just being the pool table and not a poker and pool table. There are many pool tables to choose from it is just taking the time to look and figure out what you like and what type of color would go good with your living room, or game area.

Most pool tables are cost more for the simple fact that they are made different and have special type of wood or coating. For example one bumper pool table is about nine hundred dollars for the simple fact that the whole thing is solid wood all over and has extra things to go with it. Some bumper tables can just be made by different types of brands. There are some three in ones that cost more than others, because they may have an oak wood finish or come with a certain amount of chairs and more special features.

In conclusion when you pick a table of your choice just remember to have fun and always look around to make sure there is not a better deal for that same table. You also have to realize and ask yourself is it worth all the money to get a three in one table or just pay and get a regular bumper pool table. The three in ones are nice, but if it cost more and comes with more then why not buy it instead. Bumper pool tables are great to have and the game is tons of fun.

Unique Coping with Green Water Ponds

Coping With Green Water Ponds

Using water treatments is one of the best options to cope with green water ponds which are formed by the existence of algae. It is thee problem which any gardener has to face and it is possible to control it in case of not completely eliminating. Through repeated applications of green water algae treatments, it can be controlled.

The main reason for the water in the pond to become green is none other than the algae that flourish in it. Algal bloom is the primary cause of green water not just in ponds but also in other water systems. Therefore, to be able to control the water from becoming so green, it is necessary to control the flourish of single-celled algae first.

It is known to most fish pond owners that when the fish are overfed, the wastes they produce multiply. Not to mention the uneaten food that rots and produces bacteria in the water. Hence, algae have more food to eat, bigger chance of swelling. It is essential to manage the amount of food that is given to the marine animals in your pond. Another option you have to purchase quality fish food since it can be fully digested. If so, fewer nutrients will be excreted by the fish discouraging the growth of algae.

You can also consider using Ultraviolet (UV) Clarifiers to combat the green water that has been bugging you. It works by exposing perched single-celled algae to excessive amount of ultra violet light, which then interferes to the reproductive ability of the organisms. The UV clarifier is enclosed in a dark and dense housing since the UV light is detrimental to the human eye.

The installation of UV clarifiers is not that simple. For a much safer and less frustrating process, follow the manufacturer's installation manual. You can also ask help from the manufacturers themselves. They will supply the key data on how to install the UV clarifier appropriately. They will also provide you with the instructions on how to incorporate it with the existing pond filters and pumps.

Aside from the uncontrollable algae growth, blanket weed also contribute to the transformation of your pond water from crystal clear to green. Based from some pond keepers, there are many alternative ways in order to eliminate blanket weed from infesting your pond. Some of them use a garden hose and blast blanket weed off of rocks, fountains and pond linings. Others however are hands-on. They remove these creatures literally by hand. UV clarifiers are not in any way effective in removing blanket weed and string algae so it is recommended to just stick with the manual process.

Algae and other forms of living things that make pond water green are definitely nerve-wracking. But remember that there is no water system of any kind that is free algae. The first and the most important step you can take is to understand how algae flourish particularly in ponds. Then you can think of the right ways to treat your green pond if ever you missed the first step. Balance is very important in everything, even in nature.

Elegant Instructions on Building an Outdoor Kitchen

Instructions on Building an Outdoor Kitchen

Ever wondered how to build an outdoor kitchen? It's is a great addition to any home that will also give you a way to enjoy more time outside. It's stylish, attractive and will add value to a home. What's better than having friends and family over, sitting out on the patio enjoying a great meal and cold drinks on a balmy summer night?

When considering how to build an outdoor kitchen the first thing you'll need is a place for it. If you have an unused area on your back patio, that's a great way to make use of wasted space.

Next map out just how big you want the kitchen to be. Are you looking for a cozy little nook or a grand master chef-worthy prep area? Let's compromise and build something affordable but stylish and useful.

There are a few things you'll need to get started:

Lumber
Plywood
A small refrigerator
Counter top/prep area
Cooking surface
Sink
Proper plumbing and electrical hook ups

So you've laid out your basic outdoor kitchen design. It's time to start building.

The first thing to do is build the basic framework for the kitchen. Use sturdy beams such as 2X4's joined with basic butt joints to frame the whole thing in. Be sure to anchor the base into the patio deck using either concrete anchors or decking screws. Your outdoor kitchen is heavy and the frame has to safely support all the weight. Be sure to add extra support beams along the top to hold the weight of the counter top as well as the cooking surface and sink

Once you've built your framework run your electrical and plumbing connections.

This can be a tricky part so be sure to consult your local building and electrical codes to make sure it's safe. If you are uncomfortable with this, it is wise to hire someone to do this work for you.

Now that you have a place to plug in the fridge and plumbing for the sink you can start decking out the outdoor kitchen.

Nail plywood to the framework while noting where your sink and burner cut outs are located, as well as your fridge cut out.

Use a jigsaw to cut out your sink, cooking area and refrigerator drop ins.

Next, tile the counter top. It's easy to just put down a layer of thin set and lay the ceramic tiles right on top of the plywood.

After you finish that, and the tiles have set, you can drop in your sink, plumb it up, and caulk around the edges.

Plug the refrigerator in and slide it into the cutout you made in the side of the outdoor kitchen. You can then add any kind of decorative molding you want to spiffy up the edges.

The last thing to put in is the cook top.

A wide range of options are available at your local home improvement store. For ease of use an electric griddle top is ideal. Simply insulate around the cook top and place the self contained unit inside your cutout and wire it up.

Now that you've mastered how to build an outdoor kitchen, all that's left to do is call up those friends and family and invite them over for dinner.

Awesome Ideal Weather for Outdoor Gardening

Ideal Weather For Outdoor Gardening
Cool June weather in Southern California may be the perfect weather for gardeners to plant summer vegetables, flowers and trees. Because they don’t have to worry about heat-related plant damage.

Vegetables for Small Spaces: If you are limited in your vegetable garden space, consider planting vegetables that produce big quantities per plant. These include cucumbers, onions, peppers and tomatoes. Mount tomato plants on a trellis to free up even more space.

Plan Your Herb Garden Based On Water Needs: Many herbs require little water. Rosemary, English thyme, oregano, lavender and sage all do well with minimal watering and little shade. Other herbs such as basil, chives and cilantro require moist soil and indirect sun. Plan the placement of your herb plants according to water requirements. For longer life of herbs, pinch back flowers as soon as they appear. Cilantro and basil are examples of quick-flowering herbs. By pinching back, plants grow more leaves, and in some cases, can continue to produce for a year or more.

Plant Citrus Trees: Plant citrus trees in June for best results. Waiting until the hot weather months of July and August puts stress on trees when planted. Cooler temperatures afford the best conditions for tree planting. If unable to plant trees in June, wait until fall when the weather cools. Remember, when planting a tree, the hole should be at least twice a large as the tree's root system. After placing the tree in the hole, fill the hole with a mixture of soil conditioner and soil. Press firmly on the soil and water deeply and thoroughly. The soil should be moist at all times for the first three to four weeks following transplanting. Apply a two to three inch layer of mulch around the trunk to keep in moisture and to keep the soil cool.

Protect Your Garden From Animals: Many gardeners tend their vegetable plants with care only to see rabbits, squirrels or other animals eat the fruits of their labor. To protect the garden, purchase 3/4" wire mesh that rises two to three feet high and at least one foot deep into the ground. Bend the mesh wires away from the garden so rabbits cannot easily job over. A natural animal repellant is crushed hot chili peppers scattered around your garden. Both rabbits and squirrels will stay clear.

Landscaping With Tropical Plants: If a backyard tropical paradise is in the plans, June is the time to plant. Hawaiian bamboo, ferns, palms, banana trees, ginger, hibiscus, orchids and bougainvillea all do well. June's mild weather reduces the stress of planting or transplanting.

Not Too Early To Plant Pumpkins: October may be four months off, but now is the time to plant pumpkin plants so pumpkins are ready by Halloween. Plants should be six feet apart so that long vines can grow. The plants need lots of warmth and moisture to thrive. Yellow flowers will start to appear several weeks after planting. The flowers will develop into pumpkins after they are pollinated. Each pumpkin plant will produce three to five pumpkins. If you are interested in growing large pumpkins, keep only one pumpkin per plant so the plant can focus all its energy on the one fruit. Pumpkins will be ready for picking in three to four months

The rough and uncultivated weeds must be removed from these beds. There are some plants that are attractive but are harmful for other plants in the garden. If the area is small than small raised beds must be planted. One another point that should be kept in mind is that the area where there is plantation should be rich in phosphates and humus.
There are certain fertilizers that help in the production of flowers and fruits. The most important fertilizer is the urea, ammonium phosphate and di- ammonium phosphate. These fertilizers add the fertility to the soil as they contain the nutrients required by the plant. There are certain insects that attack the other harmful insects therefore they can be used. There is also less of a mess in this type of pit, which makes it easier to clean. It is also safer than a wood burning one. However, it uses a higher content of BTU so there are some risks associated with it. It is also quite costly as compared to the wood burning one. You also have to be careful that the gas burners are not blocked by bits of food that have spilled inside. You have to clean it up immediately.

2. Wood pits - These pits use logs as the source of fuel. They are cheap and inexpensive but it requires a lot of work to light it as well as extinguish it. Cleaning the pit is also a major hassle as it is messy with soot, ashes, and charred wood. You have to make sure that the logs used for the fire are kept dry. It is ideal for camping trips as it is more suitable for outdoor use.

Now that you know about both types of outdoor fire pits, gas and wood, you must want to try out one as well? The pits are manufactured using the latest technology and every care is taken to see that the product is of the very best quality. Lovely Deep Water Aquatics for a Pond

Deep Water Aquatics For A Pond

Water Hawthorn (Aponogenton)Aponogeton distachyos is probably one of the best Deep-water aquatics, it is an easy plant to grow with leaves which can be evergreen and flowers that appear for months on end. These curious flowers borne on spikes which float at the surface, each flower has waxy white petals and black anthers. The fragrance is strong, variously described as 'vanilla and 'Hawthorn-like'. The oblong leaves tend to be blotched with brown and the eventual spread is about 2 ft. Unlike a Water Lily it will eventually flourish in partial shade and moving water, but be sure that it is deep enough for the tubers that they are below the ice in winter.
Pond Lily (Nuphar)This is certainly a relative of the Water Lily family however it seriously is not as attractive as it's illustrious cousin. The flowers are small, rather plain and are carried on thick stems above the water. There are, however, a small number of distinct advantages, light ans shade is no problem and neither is moving water. For an average sized pond choose 'Nuphar minima' (N. pumila). The yellow flowers are about 1inch across and also the under-water foliage is translucent. Unfortunately, the varieties on offer are often the enormous ones including N. lutea (Brandy Bottle) with its 3 inch bottle shaped yellow flowers which smell strongly of alcohol. This is only ideal for a large pond or lake.
Water Fringe (Nymphoides)There is simply one basic species - Nymphoides peltata, commonly often called Floating Heart. Inside the catalogues you might locate it listed as Villarsia bennettii or Limnanthermum nymphoides. The miniature Water Lily-like leaves measure about 2 inches across and tend to be crinkly edged and blotched or spotted with brown. The 11/2 inch yellow flower is more like a Buttercup than a Water Lily, and also the petal edges are fringed. The blooms are borne in small clusters. This can be a useful plant for giving rapid surface cover before Water Lilies become too established, but it could possibly get out of hand.
Golden Club (Orontium)Orontium aquaticum is mostly a trouble free and non-invasive plant with only one fussy requrement, it does need lots of soil, so remember to plant it in a deep Water Lily basket. It should grow in shallow water, but it needs a planting depth of no less than 1ft. if you'd like the leaves to float on the water surface rather than standing erect out of the water. The foliage is attractive with blue-green above and silvery below. The most outstanding feature of this member of the Arum family is the unusual flower head. This stands above the water like a pure white pencil having a tip that is coloured gold by a mass of small yellow florets. This is one aquatic plant that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone.
